International Workshop on Armenian Studies
Organized by the 2021 ZAZH-Postdoc-Fellow Dr. Arusyak Tamrazyan in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Jörg Frey
Saturday, November 27, 9:30 – 18:15
Theologisches Seminar, Kirchgasse 9, 8001 Zürich, Room 103 and via Zoom (Meeting-ID: 617 5833 6222, Kenncode: 022736)
The wealth of Armenian literature is widely unknown in Western civilization. Yet, it is an immense and, in some parts, unique treasure of early Christian interpretation, and some Jewish and Christian sources are only preserved in Armenian translation. Connected with the work of the present ZAZH-Postdoc-Fellow Dr. Arusyak Tamrazyan, this workshop brings together international specialists on Armenian literature. The focus is on parabiblical literature, that is literature beyond the biblical canon, and its reception in late antique Armenian tradition. The range of topics goes from the image of the heavenly chariot and Christ as charioteer, and Armenian apocryphal texts on Adam through traditions on Christian saints such as Thomas and Stephen till Armenian hymns and the imagery of music in Armenian tradition.
